May 13th, 2008 by Trevor
Revolution was awarded Best Music Video at the 2008 Sweet Auburn International Film Festival on Saturday May 11th. The awards ceremony was held at the King Center - the official, living memorial dedicated to the advancement of the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. SAIFF hosted over 40 films this year from three different countries. Revolution was among five films to highlight hip hop music.

The mission of SAIFF is to showcase short films, music videos, documentaries, screenplays and full length features from around the globe. Traditionally the Sweet Auburn SpringFest has been the #1 street festival in the Southeast and it still is today. The festival has been around for 25 years. More than 500,000 patrons visit the street festival each year. With the addition of the film festival several doors has been opened for talented filmmakers.

This year the festival honored Bill Nunn (Pictured Above - School Daze, Do The Right Thing, Spiderman), Afeni Shakur (Tupac’s “dear” mama), and Kenny Leon (Director of A Raisin In The Sun 2008) for their outstanding work in the field of black entertainment. This was Revolution’s first award at a black film festival and it was a privilege to be acknowledged at the King Center amongst such influential leaders in black entertainment .

Revolution has just been accepted at the San Francisco Black Film Festival!
The mission of the San Francisco Black Film Festival (SFBFF) is to celebrate African American cinema and the African cultural Diaspora and to showcase a diverse collection of films - from emerging and established filmmakers. This is accomplished by presenting Black films, which reinforce positive images and dispel negative stereotypes, and providing local, national and international filmmakers a forum for their work to be viewed and discussed. SFBFF believes film can lead to a better understanding of and communication between, people of diverse cultures, races, and lifestyles, while simultaneously serving as a vehicle to initiate dialogue on the important issues of our times.Â
This will be our first film festival screening in the Bay Area, and the San Francisco Black Film Festival couldn’t be a better place! We hope to have everyone there, so tell your folks!
